Photo Shoot Tip Collection Using a Nikon 990 to Convert 35mm Slides to Digital Images - FREE |
| Set camera in MACRO mode with the auto focusing option turned on. For long photo session, use the AC adapter. For Nikon use FINE resolution 1024x768 and you should get over 200 pictures from a 48mb CF. What would it cost to get like number of pictures converted at the local photo shop? Using this technique... it took about 20 minutes to create this slide duplicator with materials on hand. And the duplicator was FREE. |

Use a 100 soft gel SQUARE vitamin bottle. The mouth of bottle should fit snuggly over the Nikon 990 28mm lens housing.
See on the right top the inset
picture of the bottle. Then look at the adapter with and with out slide.
On the left bottom you can see the curved metal spring slide holder simply
inserted from the rear of the adapter then curved up in front. This supplies
just enough tension to hold the slide snuggly to the adapter. |
In the middle left see the circle view 'inside' the adapter. With the slide in place.. and the camera set to MACRO... use the zoom in control until the yellow MACRO flower turns white indicating that the camera is now in focus. Use your monitor screen for the back lighting. You will need to use your browser to locate a 'WHITE PAGE' with no text or graphics. OPEN Notepad editor full screen for lots of light. |

Result is a better than fair try. The black bottom edge that can be cropped using photo editor software. So far I have digitized 800 35mm slides. Using a 48mb compact flash card and a 1024 x 768 FINE Nikon camera resolution, I can get about 250 slides duplicated. I have moved all 800 slides to CD-r for archiving. Freeware slide show programs can be loaded on the CD-R for later viewing a truly interesting recollection of 3 African Safaris trips.
