How to Make a Contact Sheet - Photoshop CS2, PSCS, PS Ver 7

Files and Folders

Make a new folder that contains all the images you are going to use to create Contact Sheet (s).  Your images may be full size.  Contact Sheet will create the proper thumbnail size to fit the printed page.

I tried this using normal .jpg 8 bit file format images. My originals were 3504 x 2336 pixels dimensions.  I don't think it will work using RAW (Canon CR2, CRW or Nikon .NEF) image.  Have not tried higher tonality 16 bit or TIF's flavors yet.  Don't think better color rendering will help with small thumbnail images.

Make folder selection by browsing to folder containing your full sized images.

Select:

Dimensions pixels or inches
Printer paper size 8 x 10
Resolution should be low 72 pixels per inch
Color: RGB

The pictures will be loaded on the contact sheet in specific order

Select 2 columns and 5 rows will equal 10 images per printed 8 x 11 1/2"contact sheet.  2 x 5 will make each picture about 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" with a suitable border.

Font size means the image filename will be printed under the thumbnail on the page.

Contact Sheet - suitable for printing

When you click OK, Photoshop will go collect each of the pictures in the folder, resize them properly to fit 10 per page.  Notice that portrait images are a bit smaller than the pictures that are landscape.

I used Photoshop to write my name, camera club member number, the Garden Area where I took the pictures and the date I took them.

NOW Save this contact sheet file as a new filename and remember where (path) you put it on your hard drive.

Print this contact sheet to glossy paper.
